Philip Shirley is CEO and senior partner. He formerly served as president
of the Americas Region of the Marketing and Advertising Global Network
(MAGNET), a $2 billion affiliate group of marketing firms in the U.S.,
Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Japan. He has advised numerous colleges
and universities on branding, student recruitment, and fund-raising and is
a former board member of the Alabama Association of Independent
Colleges and Universities.
Philip has consulted on reputation management and marketing for such
national companies as BellSouth, Hughes Aircraft, Waste Management,
Olin Chemical, Georgia-Pacific, State Farm, Motorola, CSX, and Amtrak. He
led the brand process for Trinity Medical Center, Baptist Health Systems,
Crestwood Medical Center, Triad Hospitals Inc., and QHR (formerly Quorum
Health Resources), and he serves as senior counsel for LHP Hospital Group.
He is the author or co-author of four books including Opportunity in
Adversity: How Colleges Succeed in Hard Times. His latest book, Sweet Spot:
125 Years of Baseball and the Louisville Slugger, is a cultural history of the
game and the business lessons learned from how one family has kept
alive, through five generations and 125 years, the brand that became Major
League Baseball's official bat.
Philip earned bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of
Alabama, where he was a Dean's Scholar for the Graduate School. He has
served as adjunct professor of communications for Samford University and
Mississippi College and is a frequent speaker nationally and internationally
on ethics, crisis management, marketing, and writing topics.
