JACKSON, Miss. (June 21, 2016) – GodwinGroup Chairman and CEO Philip Shirley announced today that Walt Denton has become a partner and shareholder. Denton, a Biloxi native and former director of communications for the Gulf Coast Business Council, will serve on the firm’s executive committee.Walt 1

Denton returned to the firm in 2015 after previously working at the agency from 2000-2004. He serves as senior vice president, Brand Supervisor at GodwinGroup, and has 19 years of advertising, public relations and economic development experience.

Walt Denton has proven himself as a business leader and communications expert, working primarily in economic development, banking, utilities and governmental services in Jackson and on the Gulf Coast. As our newest partner, Walt provides a tremendous resource both for our clients and for agency management,” said Shirley.

He has served as primary brand manager for regional and national accounts such as Trustmark, Mississippi Power, Yates Construction, Cirque du Soleil, Hard Rock Casino and Resort, Mississippi Development Authority and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Region Utility Board’s backbone water and waste water project.  His accounts have received awards from the American Economic Development Council, International Economic Development Council, Southern Economic Development Council, Utility Communicators International, Telly and ADDY ® Awards.

Denton is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned a master’s degree in public relations and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication. A native of Biloxi, he and his family now reside in Jackson.
